The Future of Distributed Computing in Java
=========================================
How will future, large-scale distributed systems be built in Java? Existing Java API mechanisms for distributed computing include RMI, bridges to CORBA ORBs with the Java IDL, plus other technologies such as Voyager, Aglets, and bridges to DCOM. This presentation evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of these mechanisms in various contexts: that of emerging technologies, such as agent-based systems and classic distributed computing issues, such as ease-of-use, scalability, reliability, and security. Source code examples using some of these mechanisms will be presented to concretely contrast their characteristics.

Graham has extensive experience in consulting and mentoring for ObjectSpace Professional Services with a primary emphasis on C++ and Smalltalk in distributed computing environments. For ObjectSpace Educational Services, he has written and instructed advanced courses in C++, Smalltalk, Java, Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, and the Management of Object-Oriented Projects.
He is the principal architect of products such as STL
Graham graduated with honors from the University of Southampton, England, with a degree in Computer Science. He has a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas.
