JDBC provides a standard and uniform way to access SQL data from Java. We'll discuss the basic abstractions and functionality JDBC offers along with a set of examples. Support for structured types, XA and scrollable cursors will be covered in a section on the latest 2.0 features JDBC has to offer.
JDBC Drivers can be implemented using various architectures. We will discuss the different deployment scenarios best suited for each type of driver. Performance issues will be covered. Oracle's implementations will be used as examples.
Finally we will discuss some of the advantages of SQLJ over JDBC for static SQL. SQLJ is a new standard developed by a collaborative effort between multiple companies, that allows direct embedding of SQL statements in Java programs.
Prabha Krishna is a Development Manager for the JDBC group at Oracle Corporation where she works on various aspects of JDBC drivers at Oracle, since its first release. Before joining Oracle, Prabha worked at Apple Computer.
Prabha received her education in France (bachelors). She has a MS in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego.
