By Doug Sutherland
This talk will provide an introduction to the Jini architecture and explore how JINI can be used to solve distributing computing problems such as partial network failure. It will include a Jini overview, architecture discussion, and some case examples of how Jini might be used in networked appliances in the future. It will also describe the JavaSpaces transaction service, and will include some live demos of invoking Jini services over the Internet.
Doug Sutherland is a staff engineer and technology evangelist in the Java Software division at Sun Microsystems. He specializes in distributed computing with Jini, and evangelizes the potential of inter-connectivity between tiny embedded microprocessors and software services via the global Internet. He has published several papers about Java RMI, and spends a lot of time educating software developers worldwide about Sun technologies. He has an extensive background in enterprise computing, but is now focused on leveraging the network for industrial automation, scientific application, consumer electronics, and other network services.
