Now that EJB's have had some years behind them, how did they do? We'll look a little bit at my agenda in the EJB 1.0 spec, and my opinions about where EJB hit the mark and where things went a little south. The focus of the discussion will be on EJB scalability and what EJB does and does not do to provide a scalable server platform. Some shameless vendor plugs as I discuss the fundamental J/Server architecture of Oracle 8.i which EJB is overlayed. Also expect some discussion of the pro's and con's of EJB vs. javax.servlet.Servlet model.
Hal has been doing Smalltalk professionally since 1987. In 1993 I formed Polymorphic Software with Steven Harris to sell an Object Oriented Database for Smalltalk called Tensegrity. Hal now works for Oracle as the Technical lead on EJB/CORBA/HTTP/Servlets in the Java Internet Services for the 8.i server where he has been happy ever since.
